Cheyenne McCoy

Adjunct Instructor of Strings


Cheyenne McCoy is a multi instrumentalist and educator based in Oklahoma City. Her primary interest is historically informed performance practice and plays viola da gamba and baroque cello for the Oklahoma Baroque Orchestra. In addition, she plays electric bass with OKC local bands—stepmom and Speak, Memory, as well as performs experimental music with gamba and electronics in a project called Abbess. Her greatest joy is collaborating with other artists in an experimental capacity, and has worked with visual artists and other composers on installation work at Positive Space Tulsa and Factory Obscura in OKC.

As an educator, she teaches elementary through high school strings, and rock band at El Sistema Oklahoma, a free music program for public school kids in grades 3 through 12. As a member of their administration team, she mentors new teachers and develops curriculum and professional development. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Arkansas and a Master of Music in cello performance from Oklahoma City University. Notable teachers include David Gerstein, Kari Caldwell, Tomasz Zieba, Anastasia Abu Bakar, Dr. Benjamin Shute, and Tracy Hoover.
