Trey Switzer

Adjunct Instructor of Brass


Trey Switzer is a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Oklahoma, where he teaches music theory, sight singing, and ear training, contributing to the academic development of future music educators. Alongside his university responsibilities, he also serves as a local private brass instructor, working with a diverse group of students across various brass disciplines. Beyond his teaching roles, Mr. Switzer is a skilled performer with extensive experience in a range of musical styles and instruments. He has made notable contributions to numerous ensembles, performing on the tuba, euphonium, trombone, sackbut, and tenor horn. While his primary focus is on tuba and euphonium performance, his versatility is evident through his involvement in groups such as the Flatwater Jazz Orchestra, the K-State Tuba Ensemble, and the Frontier Brass Band. In addition to his performance and teaching roles, Mr. Switzer contributes to the. field as a reviewer for the annual International Tuba-Euphonium Association Journal. In this capacity, he is responsible for evaluating new repertoire in the field while providing critical insights into emerging composers. His academic background includes a degree in K-12 Music Education from the University of Nebraska at Kearney and a Master of Music in Low Brass Performance from Kansas State University. He is currently advancing his studies with a Doctor of Musical Arts in Tuba/Euphonium Performance at the University of Oklahoma. His mentors include, but are not limited to, Dr. Tim Farrell, Dr. Steve Maxwell, and Brian Dobbins.
